RuneSpace / Update

Room to Spread Out

Published

On a wide screen, Play now has a sidebar: your current Missions stay in view, and Chat, Inventory, Character, and Missions open beside the game instead of over it.

RuneSpace started as a game for phones, and on a phone it works exactly the way it did: buttons along the bottom, Chat on its own floating button, and everything else opening over the game. On a wide screen, though, that left a lot of empty room, and every trip to your Inventory or to Chat covered up the thing you were playing.

Now, on a screen about 1280 pixels wide or more, Play uses that room. A sidebar runs down the right. Your current Missions stay at the top of it, always in view, and under them four tabs — Chat, Inventory, Character, and Missions — open right there, beside the game. Next to News at the top, a Location | Map switch flips between where you are and the map.

Chat is the tab you start on. If you'd rather start somewhere else, open that tab and choose Set as default; RuneSpace remembers it for that character in that browser. Opening a different tab for a minute doesn't change it, and the Back button on that tab takes you home, to Chat or whichever tab you chose. Switching tabs won't lose a message you were halfway through typing, and a new Whisper or a trade request still lights up the Chat tab while you're busy in your Inventory.

Phones and tablets are unchanged. If you make a window narrower, whatever you had open turns back into the usual panel over the game.

Patch notes

Added

  • On screens about 1280 pixels wide or more, a right-hand sidebar keeps your current Missions in view and docks Chat, Inventory, Character, and Missions beside the game as tabs.
  • Set as default on any of those tabs chooses which one you start on, for that character in that browser. Chat is the default until you choose another.

Changed

  • On wide screens Map is a Location | Map switch at the top, next to News, and the bottom bar and floating Chat button are not shown.
  • Unsent Chat messages are kept when you move between tabs.
